Juhu At last I am sitting in front of laptop in order to report again in my life here in the Zebra Children's Village. The last weeks were pretty stressful: Some children were ill and had to go to the doctor, the school was closed for a week and the children wanted to be busy all day, the children had to the graduating class of work prepared at school be, and then the little annoyances of everyday life such as broken windows, no fire wood for cooking in the kitchen, heaps of mud and flooding after rains in the night, not resting cows during milking, running around calves, beating in the bathroom, crying children, never tired of expectant children and including children, to let go of a not always easy and kissing everywhere:)
Yes, it was November in the abstract and today is already the 1st December!? I can not even imagine. You have zero temperatures, and Christmas decorations everywhere - I have 30 ° C or more each day and Christmas ever not in mind. But there was so was: Did yesterday received mail from Flensburg (THANKS Frank!) And now a small advent calendar!
But what happened in November or so? First, it rained quite often, so there is everything right now green. Many of the people even say that it has long been not so green here! I find it definitely really cool, because the first ten weeks where everything was gray-yellow, were for me as a country child already getting used to.
Not quite as green, but the photographic evidence, that live ostriches at the door. |
Also, I've had in November, my first contacts with Kenyan doctors. On the one hand, I was sick and on the other hand, I have been with some children at a doctor. One girl had to be pulled a nail in the foot, with two children had teeth and then had a boy malaria. I therefore went with the kids in there to matatu to Kiserian and "Hospital" gone. The children were examined and treated exactly as is the case in Germany, only that the doctors here with less equipment than work in Germany and (at least in Kiserian) do not have as many fancy equipment. Subsequently, the treatment will be paid directly and distributed more and more drugs. This was / is for me a debatable point: drugs are here really like candy eaten and distributed. After every visit I again had a bag with three or more different drugs that the children would take three times a day.
It was in November but also many wonderful experiences. One weekend I was with the volunteers here from the environment in Nairobi to celebrate. Together with my predecessor Zebra Children's Village we went to a nightclub, was played in that day live music on a huge site. Although we had to watch constantly on our valuables and bags and it was stolen a few little things (no idea how the hired have that), but we also had a lot of fun !!... shyness not know the Kenyans when it comes to speak to white people.
We have also at one of the days on which the children had no school, a little trip to the river around here made. I was thinking that I do like the river or the river look like, but I was taught better one. From one to the other moment I thought, I'm not near the ZCV, but in the middle of the jungle!
And again the Compare my previous idea of the river ...
... and expanded my idea of the river:

... and expanded my idea of the river:
the rest of November we were busy with the children for the school to learn. Here ends the school year in late November freely with the final exam and then have the children a month. In early January, the school will be going on with the new school year and the children have once again another three months to school in April, a month is free. That means for me that I now also have a month I did not free because the children were picked up by their guardians to Christmas at home to spend. I'm all alone here in ZCV together with the security guard and enjoy the tranquility. And I'm learning from morning to night with a guard Kiswahili and talking with the Maasai men who come here regularly to recharge their cell phones in our solar system. In between I make my views on the way to run a round or Kiserian shopping. Cook am I doing at the moment not really, that's all the security guard:) plant just like watermelon, because I so love to eat and drive just do not always Kiserian need to get me to buy them:)
Next week I'll probably leave it in the direction of Lake Victoria, in order to pursue other volunteers ...
