I wish you all a Happy New Year!
I've been exactly one week in ZCV after I am 28.12. started from here towards Mombasa, was to celebrate New Year with some other volunteers ...
However, before even the lot happening here in ZCV from which I want to tell you. Actually I had planned to cancel Christmas this year, more or less and just spend a quiet day here. Then than two days before Christmas was one of the children into Zebra Children's Village back and it was over with my sleep;) From now on, I had 24 hours a day, a child who wanted to be busy.
Am 24.12. It was, therefore, to the American couple who visited the ZCV every Thursday and there was a big feast with turkey and Christmas tree.
Since Christmas in Kenya but not on 24.12. but at 25.12. celebrated, I was at 25.12. called for a Kenyan Christmas dinner to conjure. Went for the child and I shop together and worried all the things that they wanted to eat you. For me, it was then that I had to make chapati ("pancakes" made of flour and water)! Luckily I had in the months before ever practiced with the social worker and the housekeeper, so that the chapati looked really after chapati and tasted:) These were then sausages, Sukumawiki, potatoes, Fanta and for dessert, chocolate and a small demonstration my pictures from Germany.

On the morning of 25.12. Incidentally, we were again with the American couple together and drove to a pretty far-flung Masai Church Worship. During the service, a nativity play was staged, that the Americans had rehearsed with the children on site for a long time.
Am 26.12. there was again a "feast": this time with meat and chapati Sukumawiki and Fanta and cookies. And then followed by two more days for me with the child, where I had to remain seated in the annual accounts for the ZCV. For the child very well, it was allowed to see the TV.
Finally, the child was at 28.12. from my project manager picked up, to spend the last days of holidays in the family and I went on my way to Nairobi to meet with the volunteers from Kisii and Bungoma. We were until the evening of 29.12. in Nairobi and operated a little sightseeing. At 7:00 clock in the evening it was said then meet other volunteers from Tanzania and make the train on the trip to Mombasa ... it took us 19 hours at a train speed of 20-30 mph! During our trip, there was dinner and breakfast and we had a sleeping compartment in which I slept very well.
pretty hot in Mombasa, we met in the back packer hostel with other volunteers from Uganda and spent a few days with lot "luxury". A beautiful house with carpets, flush toilets, showers with hot water, mirrors, huge kitchen, flowing stream, sofas, televisions ... all lacked what were cabinets and a bit of space ... the backpacker hotel was overcrowded with young adults from around the world so that all mattresses to sleep lying around and very interesting discussions took place. BTW, we slept on the roof terrace at night, thus bit of cool wind can enjoy!
In the vicinity of the hotel it was a beautiful beach, which I have celebrated my New Year's Eve 2010/2011. We had taken a couple of drinks and sandwiches and have gone swimming at 12 in the Indian Ocean. In addition there was the beach hotel next door some fireworks:)
Am 02.01. Finally, it went a bit further up the coast Watamu and Malindi and after we were in for a marine national park snorkeling. Much of the cities, we have unfortunately not seen since it was so hot that we were the most time in the water. However, we visited the ruins of the old city, "Gede", inhabited by many monkeys and surrounded by huge trees.
Well, and then it was already back home. This time in 7 hours by bus overnight from Mombasa to Nairobi and then the usual Matatufahrten into ZCV. At 8:30 clock in the morning at 05.01. I was here. And in the afternoon on the road again with the Americans in order to buy shoes for the children: Tomorrow will be Christmas for the children again!
The children are already since the 02.01. back the project and go to school. Everyday life is so back, is for my partners and me, however, softened by a generous donation. This donation allows us namely the construction of a greenhouse and the improvement of water supply. The ZCV can therefore sometimes even grow enough fruit and vegetables for the children. I'm excited and looking forward to the practical work in the construction of the greenhouse;)
